Centrum's Port Townsend Jazz Workshop
http://www.centrum.org/index.php?page=3DJazz-WS-2005

Centrum's Port Townsend Jazz Workshop has become one of America's finest jazz experiences.

Each year, the combination of world-class artist/faculty, plus talented and enthusiastic participants, creates a rare community of jazz musicians. The workshop provides five days of intensive study and interaction with internationally acclaimed jazz artists. These sessions serve musicians of varying ages and experience-all serious about jazz. Participants come from across the United States, as well as Canada, Europe and the Far East.

Participants enjoy daily rehearsals in combos, improvisation or vocal classes, receiving focused instruction as they prepare for a performance at the end of the workshop. Jazz Theory sessions provide valuable information for participants in their development as improvisers. Master Classes conducted each day by faculty members cover topics specific to their chosen instruments. "Faculty Presents" concerts each afternoon give participants a chance to hear performances by faculty members in an intimate setting. The workshop culminates in a series of "Students Present" concerts in which all participants have an opportunity to perform.

The workshop is designed to serve intermediate-to-advanced players. Applicants must have a basic technical command of their instrument or voice, as well as elementary improvisation experience or a basic knowledge of music theory. Participants represent collegiate, avocational and professional levels, as well as many outstanding high school students. Differing levels of ability are expected; classes and ensembles are designed to best accommodate these differences.

Financial aid is available.
