FYI (For Your Information)

Mechanical Licenses
Once upon a time, long, long ago you could cover any song you liked. If the writer didn't like it they could either court a powerful nobleman to have you thrown in the dungeon or they could just forget about it.

Once upon a time, no so long ago you could not cover a song unless you first obtained permission from the copyright holder. This was possible but a bit mysterious and time consuming.

Now, with the advent of the internet, if you would like to cover a song all it takes is a credit card and a few clicks of the mouse. Not all songs are available through this mechanism. But the ones which are can be had with very little fuss and muss.
