Oscar Peterson

Oscar Peterson was born in Montreal, Canada in 1925. He lived in a limestone house with his mother and father and his four brothers and sisters who all acquired an appreciation for music growing up.

As a teenager, he began to learn jazz, influenced by the likes of Nat King Cole and Art Tatum, and studied classical piano with a Hungarian teacher who saw his gift for music. After his older sister Daisy helped him to get an audition and win a national amateur music contest, he was invited to play for local radio stations on weekly shows like Fifteen Minutes' Piano Rambling. Since then, it has been hell and high rollin' through his career.

He is a great among greats, playing with every jazz master in every jazz stronghold, such as his duo performance of Jazz at the Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall with Ray Brown in 1949. He has won scores of awards and delighted audiences everywhere. One of his best known songs is "Night Train." Catch it!
