Jazz Art
There is a long history of association between jazz and art. Artists playing jazz, jazz musicians making art, art about jazz, and even jazz about art.
Recently there has emerged a new synthesis of art and jazz on stage. The use of fine art backdrops and fine art space dressing during jazz performances has produced a dynamic merging of the two art forms.

History of Jazz Art
|
| |
Jazz art has evolved with the evolution of jazz itself and the evolution
of technology. That which may have begun as mostly photo essay and
portraiture has evolved into fine photography, graphic arts for product
packaging, fine art explorations of the jazz experience, and a dynamic
blending of art and music in performance.

Jazz Art at IAJE
|
| |
From day one jazz art has had its place in
jazz history particularly in chronicling musicians
through photography and capturing the jazz experience through both
naive and fine art. IAJE has been a cruicible for the evolution of a
strategic partnership between art and music on the same stage. That art
has become more than set dressing. It has stepped up to become a partner
in the creative process which is a performance.

Jazz Art Collections
|
| |
Collections and collectors play a significant role in jazz art and the
preservation of the artifacts of jazz. Without the care and
conservatorship of collectos much of the rich history we have would have
been lost.

Jazz Art on Stage
|
| |
In the 1960's Tim Leary talked about experience being shaped by set,
setting and dosage. Even though he was talking about something rather
different, if you consider setting to be the hall and audience, consider
the dosage to be the music, and consider the stage set and dressing to be
the set, then it's possible to see how they each contribute to the
overall
experience of the performance.
