Recently awarded Best Jazz Festival in Canada by the National Jazz Awards, the TD Canada Trust Toronto Jazz Festival features 350 concerts at venues across the city, with stages in neighbourhoods such as Roncesvalles, Yonge and Eglinton, Yorkville, the Distillery and Harbourfront.
New for 2006 are two series, EuroJazz and the Cabaret Series, and two new celebrations, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and Phat Tuesday.
Canada's premier jazz station, JAZZ.FM91, will be broadcasting live from Nathan Phillips Square the entire ten days of the festival.
Celebrate Canada Day at Nathan Phillips Square in front of New City Hall as the Hilario Duran Big Band kicks off the festivities at 1pm. Groove & Graffiti takes over the square at 3pm as students and aerosol artists, Elicser and Mediah, showcase their artistic skills while a DJ Jedi spins rare jazzy grooves. Return in the evening for a night of saxophones with Pharoah Sanders and Kenny Garrett.
