Member of IJFO, the Vitoria-Gasteiz Jazz Festival is one of the major musical events in Spain. In fact, the Festival, it is the only Spanish Festival member of the International Jazz Festival Organization, placing it on equal terms with some of the most prestigious in North America, such as Montreal and Vancouver in Canada and Monterey and Ravinia in the United States. Big star performances at Mendizorroza Sports Arena in combination with the concerts of young and almost unknown musicians at the Principal Theatre make for an attractive musical offer not only for the audience wishing to attend a specific event but for jazz lovers in general. After the main hall concerts, some clubs present jam sessions until dawn which, in the past, have included great stars like Wynton Marsalis or Marcus Miller. Another permanent section are the New Orleans Brass Band street parades. On the educational side, the Festival de Jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz will continue to hold the Jazz Seminar
with the collaboration of the Juilliard School of New York. This project which commenced in 2004 will continue in future years and is open to music students and professional musicians.
Miembro de la IJFO (Organización Internacional de Festivales de Jazz), el Festival de Jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz es uno de los eventos musicales más importantes de España. En realidad, el Festival, es el único festival miembro de dicha organización, que le coloca en una situación de tú a tú con respeto a algunos de los festivales más importantes de América del Norte, como Montreal y Vancouver en Canadá y Monterrey y Ravinia en los Estados Unidos. Actuaciones de grandes estrellas en el Estadio Mendizorroza junto con los conciertos de jóvenes promesas en el Teatro Principal garantizan una oferta musical atractiva no solamente para aquellos espectadores que desean asistir a un evento concreto pero también para los amantes de jazz en general. Después de los conciertos en los recintos principales, algunos clubes ofrecen jam sessions hasta el amanecer que, en el pasado, han incluido grandes estrellas como Wynton Marsalis o Marcus Millar. Otra sección permanente son los desfiles de New
Orleáns Brass Bands. En el ámbito pedagógico, el Festival de Jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz seguirá celebrando el Seminario de Jazz en colaboración con la Escuela Juilliard de Nueva Cork. Este proyecto que comenzó en 2004 tendrá continuidad en los años venideros y está abierto tanto a los estudiantes como a músicos profesionales.
